The winter is a great time to focus on laser skin procedures. With less sunlight and more time spent inside hibernating, your skin has the opportunity to heal properly and allow the redness to abate at its own pace.
While this logic appeals to all laser treatments, one of our favorite treatments is the PicoSure. A revolutionary procedure, the resurfacing laser will help you get your best skin ever. Here’s how to glow in 2022:
The Basics
PicoSure Laser is not your average laser. It’s a multifaceted procedure that uses laser technology to treat age spots, freckles, sun damage, pigmented lesions, wrinkles, and acne scars. With peak power, separate emission modes (to treat each aesthetic concern appropriately), unique handpiece design, and three true laser wavelengths, the versatility and power makes it one of our favorite industry-leading devices.
How It Works
The PicoSure Laser laser works by damaging skin cells deep in the dermis. The dermis is the inner layer of the two main layers of the skin that contains collagen, elastic connective tissue, blood vessels, oil and sweat glands, nerves, and hair follicles. As we age, we lose collagen and elastin, a fibrous protein found naturally in the skin that is responsible for skin strength and elasticity. The loss of these components leads to wrinkling and sagging — aka the natural aging process.
However, when the skin cells in the dermis are damaged, it signals a healing response in the skin known as “cell signaling.” This process activates the creation of new collagen and elastin. The result is firmer, tighter, and smoother skin.
While traditional lasers rely on heat, the PicoSure relies on ultra-short pulses of energy that are delivered to the skin in trillionths of a second. The lack of heat results in less skin damage which means less redness, less pain, and less downtime. In fact, the lack of harsh chemicals and intense damage associated with heat-based treatments makes this a great option for those with sensitive skin.
What to Expect
PicoSure has the ability to hyper-target the area of concern, which means that surrounding skin is not impacted by the treatment. Additionally, PicoSure can be used on various body parts like the neck, décolleté, back, and legs.
One PicoSure Focus session takes only ten minutes, and with no downtime, you’ll be able to resume your daily activities immediately. However, it may take a few sessions to see your desired results — something we will discuss before we begin. Your unique needs will be taken into consideration for optimal results. Everyone has different skin and the PicoSure laser allows for maximum customization.
